Western Fair Rezoning Update

The stage is set for potential expansion of the Western Fair District in London, Ont., as city officials recently voted unanimously in favour of rezoning land owned by the city and Western Fair.

According to a report from the London Free Press, the zoning changes give Gateway Casinos and Entertainment the space to expand their operation at the Western Fair District, pending the resolution of ongoing negotiations with Western Fair and city officials.

“I would hope and expect that we would work together well, as we have in the past,” said Jen Pastorius, from the Old East Village Business Improvement Association, of fair and city officials.

Gateway wants to take on a $140 million redevelopment of the property, with a vision to replace the current grandstand with a smaller structure and expand their casino offerings to include table games, new restaurants and a 125-room hotel.
