Witch Dali was extremely late getting to the races this season for trainer Tony Alagna, but she is quickly proving she was well worth the wait.
The three-year-old daughter of Dali-Whitesand Gem, who made her first start of the season on December 5, is now undefeated in her first three starts of the season thanks to her dominant performance in Monday’s second leg of the Niagara Series for three-year-old pacing fillies at Woodbine Racetrack.
In rein to Jody Jamieson, Witch Dali fired to the front from Post 7 and never looked back. She carved out panels of :27.2, :56.2 and 1:24.3 before using a :28.1 kicker to win by 4-1/4 lengths over Saucy B in what turned out to be a career-best clocking of 1:52.4. Third prize was earned by Double Joy.
Sent off as the 2-5 favourite in the $15,000 affair, Witch Dali improved her overall record to 6-1-1 from 13 trips postward. Alagna Racing LLC of Steger, Illinois shares ownership on the career winner of $56,820 with Brad Grant of Milton, Ontario.
The $34,800 final of the Niagara Pacing Series is scheduled for Woodbine Racetrack’s Boxing Day matinee. Post time for that card of racing is 1 p.m.
