After Irish Thunder narrowly upended him last week, Willyorwonthe ($6.60) held his ground confidently this time around and posted a 1:59.4 score in Wednesday's (Dec. 16) featured $8,500 Preferred 3 Trot at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
The seven-year-old Angus Hall gelding had no trouble clearing from post 6, and in fact secured an uncontested lead before reaching the first turn. Following a :29.2 first quarter, Daryl Thiessen rated Willyorwonthe through a 1:00.1 half before bracing for the first-over challenge of Scene A Magician (Greg Dustin) on the second circuit.
Scene A Magician cranked up the pressure with five-sixteenths to go, but Willyorwonthe responded with a :28.4 third sectional and maintained a one-length lead. The pair trotted one-two through the far turn and home stretch, with Willyorwonthe reaching the winning post 1-1/4 lengths in front. Xtatic Hanover (Travis Henry) rode second-over cover to finish third.
Kyle Bossence trains 40-time winner Willyorwonthe for William Brown and Phil Maguire.
