On a program liberally sprinkled with longshots, Omen Hanover turned in a dominant 1:53.2 triumph to win the $23,000 Mares Open Pace on Tuesday
at Dover Downs.
Andy Miller drove favourite Omen Hanover into the early lead and then poured it on after reaching the half with a :27.4 third-quarter and topped off the winning mile with a :28.2 last panel for her ninth victory of the season. Nick Surick trains the Western Hanover-Oohs And Aahs seven-year-old for KDM Stables Corp. It was Omen Hanover’s third consecutive win and fourth in her last five outings. Star Keeper (Corey Callahan) was second in front of Wish All You Want (Matt Kakaley).
Corey Callahan continued his red-hot pace driving five winners. Still Electric gave Corey Callahan his fourth of five wins closing strongly to notch a 1:53.2 victory in a $16,000 Mares Winners-Over pace for owners Howard Taylor, Tom Lazzaro and Jerry Silva. Dylan Davis conditions the seven-year-old daughter of Mr Electric-Still Terrific, now a four-race winner this season earning $47,440. Ash Larue (George Dennis) saw a two-race win streak end finishing second. Allamerican Mobile (Ross Wolfenden) was the show finisher.
It was a similar story in the $15,500 Filly and Mare Pace. In a driving finish, 35-1 shot Raquel, piloted by Ross Wolfenden, came from far back to get up in the final stride for a 1:55 win. Badlands Style (Jon Roberts) was right there second, Paradise Lost (Jim Morand) was a close-up third. Trainer Richard Malone and Casey Foltz own the Rocknroll Hanover-Tallulah Belle filly. The well-bred sister to full brothers Metropolitan and 2011 freshman Special Blend recorded her fifth success of the year bringing her seasonal earnings to $37,035.
