Fraser Hosts BC Sales Stake, Six For Hensley

Two-year-old pacing fillies were the four-legged stars of the show at Fraser Downs on Sunday as they did battle in divisions in the first leg of the BC Sales Stake, but it was Ed Hensley who deserved the standing ovation

based on his big day at the office.

Hensley reined home six winners on the 11-race program, including a natural “Grand Slam” in races three thru six. The career winner of 4,291 races is quickly closing in on $19 million in lifetime earnings.

As far as the BC Sale Stake divisions were concerned, opening split went to the undefeated Camystic-Artfromtheheart filly, Mystic Maiden. She front-stepped to a 1:59 victory for Dave Hudon, who guided the Justin Currie trainee to her fourth score in as many tries. Been Down Before sat the pocket trip and held on for the runner-up money, while Estrella Roja tagged along to finish third.

Barry MacFarlane of Langley, BC holds the ownership papers on the career winner of $10,600.

The other division went to Dealingwithhos, who notched her second consecutive victory for owner/breeder Ray Soh of Delta, BC. The Modern Art-Dealmeahos miss was treated to a sweet pocket trip by driver Michael Hennessy en route to posting the 2:00.2 triumph over longshot runner-up Alley Scat. The odds-on favourite, Fast Lane Delila, set the pace but had to settle for third prize.

Richard Lancaster conditions Dealingwithhos, who now owns a 2-2-1 record in her first seven trips postward. The youngster has banked just over $13,000 along the way.

The Sunday program also featured three divisions in the opening round of the Abbetross A Claiming Series. Winning their $3,000 assignments were Carwins C E O (1:57), Piper (1:58) and My Alibi (1:57.3).
