After spending the year attempting to return to the races at age four, Trot Insider has learned that O'Brien Award winning pacer Idyllic has been retired.
According to trainer and co-owner Casie Coleman, the daughter of American Ideal - Magical Dreamer injured herself just before her initial 2012 qualifier and was given time to recover when she hurt herself again.
At age two, Idyllic reeled off eight wins in nine starts, only finishing third in the 2010 Breeders Crown Final to the sensational and undefeated See You At Peelers. Wins in the Eternal Camnation, She's A Great Lady, Champlain and Three Diamonds helped Idyllic garner the O'Brien Award for two-year-old pacing filly of the year.
At three, Idyllic avenged her loss in the Breeders Crown by handing See You At Peelers her first lifetime defeat after 22 straight wins by winning the Nadia Lobell at the Meadows.
Owned by West Wins Stable of Cambridge, Ont., Michael A La Cova and Joseph Lacova of West Islip, New York and John Campagnuolo of Loxahatchee, Florida, Idyllic topped her sophomore season with a convincing straight-heat win in the 2011 Jugette.
Idyllic retires with 13 wins in 25 starts, a mark of 1:50f and earnings in excess of $1.3 million. Coleman notes that the millionaire pacing mare will be entered into the January Mixed Sale at The Meadowlands to dissolve the partnership as some of the owners do not want a broodmare. If Coleman is the high bidder, she will breed Idyllic to her former stablemate Sportswriter.
I already have a Sportswriter
I already have a Sportswriter colt from the first crop. He's beautiful. If Casie gets her wish, the rest of us will be in trouble. Of course Idyllic won't be cheap to buy. From what I saw in Harrisburg, she could easily fetch over $300K.
