The fourth time was the charm for Ontario-sired Betit To Getit, who had finished fourth, third and second in her first three attempts to capture the weekly Open Mares Pace at Dayton Raceway.
On Friday night, the four-year-old daughter of No Pan Intended was pushed off the gate with authority by driver Jason Brewer and was never headed through fractions of :27.l, :56.l and 1:23.4 before tripping the teletimer in 1:52. Up Front Kellie Jo (Randy Tharps) finished strong to garner second money over pocketsitter Eve Marie Seelster (Kyle Ater), who hung on for third in the $11,000 event.
It was a wide open affair as none of the seven contestants had captured an Open at the new Dayton Raceway with the previous five winners either sitting the week out or retired for the season.
Jeff Brewer, Jason’s dad, trains Betit To Getit for the Holland Racing Stable of Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario.
In a qualifying race prior to the live program, Lost For Words set a two-year-old track record of 1:53.1 in a prep race for his next scheduled start in the Breeders Crown eliminations.
Leading driver Chris Page backed off the gate with the Brian Brown-trainee before pulling from sixth at the quarter pole, reached in :28. The smooth sailing son of Well Said extended his lead at every remaining call, reaching the half in :57, the three-quarters in 1:26 and finishing 22 lengths ahead in 1:53.1.
“He’s a very, very nice colt,” said Page of the $194,987 winner, who captured divisions of the Standardbred Stake at Delaware, Ohio, and the Bluegrass and Allerage Stakes at Lexington in the last month. “I wish him and David [expected regular driver David Miller] all the luck in the world next week.”
Lost For Words is owned in partnership by Country Club Acres Inc., William Robinson, Richard Lombardo and the Strollin Stable, all of Ohio.
