Hot Air Balloon Tops Third Harrisburg Session

The 2012 Standardbred Horse Sales Company Annual Sale continued with its third session, topped by Hot Air Balloon, on Wednesday at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.

Selling as Hip 699, Hot Air Balloon topped Wednesday's session with a price tag of $130,000. Consigned by agent Peninsula Farm Inc., the colt was purchased by Fashion Farms LLC of New Hope, Pennsylvania. Hot Air Balloon is sired by Yankee Glide out of the S Js Photo mare Tori Ann, who is a half-sister to stakes-winner Charlie De Vie ($272,918, 1:53.2).

Crazy Bug, Hip 880, earned the second highest bid of the day at $80,000. The son of Crazed is the first foal out of the Muscles Yankee mare Cecada. He was purchased by Linda Toscano of Freehold, New Jersey from the Northwood Bloodstock Agency consignment.

Rose Run Porter, Hip 585, was purchased for $75,000 by Myron Bell of North Bergen, New Jersey from agent Spring Haven Farm. The son of American Ideal is out of the Four Starzzz Shark mare Ride The Skies, a half-sister to Real Flight ($227,455, 1:50.4).

Wonandhowe Hanover, Hip 754, was another $75,000 purchase. Consigned by Hanover Shoe Farms Inc., the Deweycheatumnhowe colt out of the Conway Hall mare Won An Done, who is a half-sister to S Js Caviar ($1,288,466, 1:53.4), was purchased by Dustin Jones of Campbellville, Ont.

Also selling for $75,000 was Max Vision, Hip 804. He was purchased by Trond Smedshammer of Allentown, New Jersey from the Fair Winds Farm consignment. The son of Chocolatier is out of Armbro Deja Vu, a half-sister to Manofmanymissions ($1,213,603, 1:52.1). Max Vision is a half-brother to Dejarmbro ($1,135,123, 1:55.2).

The Select Yearling Sale will continue Thursday, followed by the Mixed Sale on Friday and Saturday.

A total of 855 horses have sold so far over the three sessions for over $29.2 million, resulting in an average price of $34,153.

At the 2011 sale, 1,096 select yearlings were sold for $34,167,000, for an average of $31,174; 952 mixed horses were sold for $20,928,200, an average of $21,983. Pennsylvania sires led the way with 454 select yearlings selling for $15,085,700, an average of $33,228. Overall, 2,048 horses sold for $55,095,200, an average of $26,901.
