A decisive quarter-pole brush to command engineered by driver Gerry Hudon ultimately proved to be the winning move for Timberline Court, who rolled to an impressive 1:53.4 score in Sunday’s $75,202 Black Gold Final at Northlands Park.
Barona Grizzly, who was sent off as the 9-5 favourite in the eight-horse affair, hustled the field to the quarter pole in :28 seconds before yielding to sit a pocket trip to Timberline Court.
That three-year-old son of With Held produced middle splits of :56.2 and 1:24.4 before finishing off his foes with a :29 second final frame. He was a length ahead of runner-up Barona Grizzly, with Avalon Promise another two lengths back in third.
Hudon conditions and co-owns the pacer with Lynn Kowalevsky of Airdrie, AB, who also bred the geldings. The victory was his eighth win in 13 tries and the lion’s share of the purse boosted his bankroll to $122,776.
