Moffett Spearheads Charity Drives

Heather Moffett, the popular host of two Middle-Atlantic area harness racing television programs, Post Time (in Delaware) and PA Harness Week (seen in Eastern Pennsylvania), is working on a campaign to raise money for two charities, and, at the same time, bring new fans to the standardbred sport

. She’s planning on achieving both goals via the social media outlet, Facebook.

“Facebook has been a really useful way for me to reach a community who has not been exposed to harness racing,” explained Moffett. “My hope is that the more people who 'Like' my page will result in more people becoming familiar with the sport. I have so much fun interacting with fans on my Facebook page. Plus, love promoting the sport and showing video clips of the shows I host. I wanted to give an extra incentive for people to have my page come up on their Facebook newsfeed so I came up with a fund raising idea.”

If Moffett’s public figure Facebook page reaches 4,000 'Likes' by December 31, then a total of $800 will be donated to charity. A check for $400 will go to Horse Lovers United, a group that cares for and finds homes for standardbreds who are unable to compete. The other half of the money will go to Wells For Ghana, a group that drills wells in Africa and is headed by harness horse owner Kenny Wood. The Pennsylvania Harness Horsemen’s Association, Cat and Ellen Manzi and Aaron Merriman are the generous sponsors for this fund raiser.

“The original idea was to get 800 new 'Likes' and each new 'Like' would equal one dollar,” explained Moffett. “I am down to needing 600 more people to be a part of get on my page. I only have a month to do it and I know that seems as if it’s a bit ambitious, but I’m ready for the challenge. As long as people share my page with their Facebook friends it’s going to happen.”
