Stand Guard won in his debut for trainer Ben Baillargeon at Woodbine Racetrack on November 22 after being purchased for $70,000 out of the mixed portion of this year’s Harrisburg Sale, and on Saturday night the gelding won again
during a road trip to Georgian Downs.
The five-year-old son of Conway Hall squared off with five square-gaited foes in the $14,000 Preferred Trot, and he front-stepped his way to a 1:54.3 score for Baillargeon and driver Scott Coulter.
Stand Guard chopped out panels of :27.2, :57 and 1:25.2 before scooting home in :29.1 to defeat runner-up Corkemup by three-quarters of a length. Isthatallyagot tagged along to finish third.
Sent off as the 1-2 favourite in the featured event for the partnership of Ben Baillargeon of Rockwood, ON and C Tremblay Holding Inc of Brossard, QC, Stand Guard won for the seventh time this season and for the 18th time in his career. The trotter has stashed away more than $83,000 this season and more than $300,000 to date.
