Attendees didn’t have to wait long to see the sale topper in the second annual Michiana Classic Yearling Sale at the Michiana Event Center on Saturday, November 24.
Life Is A Highway, a black colt by Always A Virgin, earned the status as the sale topper at $38,000. Life Is A Highway was the fourth horse through the sales ring. Benita Simmons of Springfield, Ill. was the winning bidder. Life Is A Highway was part of the Homestead Acres consignment, serving as agent for Ernie Hochstetler.
The second highest seller on the day was Hip 117, Racin Cream Pie, a brown filly by Whom Shall I Fear, who brought $35,000. John Barnard, owner of Fiftydallarbill, was the winning bidder of the filly from the In Law Stables consignment.
According to the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale website, a total of 199 yearlings were sold at the event, grossing $1.295 million. The average was $6,512.
Great Turnout for Midwest Mixed Sale
A large crowd was on hand for the second annual Midwest Mixed Sale at the Michiana Event Center on Friday, November 23. A total of 147 entries were included in the lineup that ranged from weanlings to broodmares to racehorses.
The sale topper was Hip No. 113, Southwind Thundra, a two-year-old filly by Bettors Delight and a sister to two with earnings in excess of $1 million, including Southwind Tempo. The filly brought $77,000 in the ring and was purchased by Merlie Schwartz of Peru, Ind.
Another filly that grabbed a lot of attention was the three-year-old trotter Red Rose Swan, consigned by LeWayne Miller Racing of Anderson, Ind. The Swan for All sophomore, who has a mark of 1:55.3, brought a price of $70,000. Marlin Eash of Shipshewana, Ind. was the buyer.
