Curator kept his perfect record intact at Woodbine Racetrack on Monday evening thanks to an eye-catching score in 1:51.3
, and what makes the performance even more impressive is the fact it was his first start since late August.
The Jack Darling-trained three-year-old son of American Ideal-Gallery Hop went into Monday’s return race – a $19,000 conditioned event – with just a pair of qualifiers under his belt. And they were anything but impressive ones.
The gelding kicked it up a notch, however, under the lights for Billy Davis, Jr., who piloted the fleet-footed Curator to the 1:51.3 victory. He parked past the quarter pole in :26.3 before making the lead and slicing out middle panels of :55.1 and 1:23.2. A :28.1 final quarter was more than enough for Curator to win by 7-3/4 lengths over Seven Grins in 1:51.3. Join Hands rallied well to finish third.
Jack Darling Stables Ltd of Cambridge, ON owns the five-time winner, who took a 1:50.1 record at Mohawk earlier this summer in just his third lifetime start. He was a $40,000 purchase from the 2009 Lexington Select Yearling Sale.
