The current edition of Rewind is the latest version of Picture Parade. In this week's offering, Robert Smith has put together a group of pictures of drivers who all hail from some part of the Maritime Provinces. Many of the photos were taken elsewhere but the subjects all came from the same great hotbed of harness racing. The routine stays the same; you can submit as many or as few guesses as you want. Remember you don't have to be a Maritimer to recognize most of these fine fellows. Good Luck!
#1 - We have a huge gathering here. Can you identify the driver?
#2 - A huge crowd looks on as this noted horseman heads for a win. Who is he?
#3 - All you need to do here is name the driver. I do know that at least one person in the Rewind audience knows the name of the horse too.
#4 - Naming the man in the middle is your job on this one.
#5 - This serious looking fellow was a pretty successful driver. When the roll was called he was usually first.
#6 - The year and the location are pretty easy to come up with. Who is the driver? If you recognize anyone else feel free to include them.
#7 - Can you name this fine gentleman, second from right, who has just won a race? What about the others? Name one or all if you can.
#8 - A man who spent a long career in the sport is shown here. He even became a starter later in his tenure. Can you put the proper name on him?
#9 - The Maritimes turned out a lot of top horsemen and this man ranked pretty high on any list. Can you name him?
#10 - Who is this fellow wearing a winning smile? If you've got his identity figured out then send it in if you choose.
Quote For The Week: A couple of young fellows were conversing at the water cooler to start the day. Here's how the conversation went. "I saw you downtown last night; who was that lady you were with? " He replied "Oh that wasn't a lady, that was my wife!"
This week's pictures drew a
This week's pictures drew a goodly number of respondents. I believe each picture was correctly solved and my guess came true that at least one person would be able to identify the horse in #3 . Talk about getting it straight from the "horse's mouth" (or in this case the driver's mouth). The pictures including, as much info as I could find were as follows:
1 - Jim Doherty driver
2 - Earl Avery with Porterhouse
3 - Wm. O'Donnell with Travelling Boy. Bill O'Donnell identified the horse correctly.
4 - Wally Hennessey the driver
5 - Angus Allen (always first in roll call with initials AA)
6 - Horse was Firebolt, driver Art Porter (just passed away in July at age 91) , Lt. Gov. Billy Archer MacDonald presenting to owners Captain Jack and Mrs. Cruikshank owner on the far right. Malcolm Ferguson holding the horse
7 - Horse Don Juan, driver Milton Downey with children Steve and Joyce. Mayor Dorothy Corrigan presenting (I think), Peter Gray holding
8 - Kenny McNutt
9 - James "Roach" McGregor
10 - Clayton McLeod
It's quite time consuming to assemble these pictures but when you readers respond it makes for time well spent. Thanks so much.
A special note to Cass - Hi Cass you are already in a special category, no need to have a lot of winners to your credit. At least you DID drive!
