A set of photogenic trotters earned the spotlight Monday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park as Kinnder High Class and Oney Hall extended their respective winning streaks.
Kinnder High Class entered her assignment riding a five-race winning streak, and that number grew to six after she front-stepped to a solid score in a $20,000 conditioned affair.
Samuel Fillion got away second with the Denitza Petrova-owned and trained homebred before powering to the lead on the way to the backstretch. Victor Invictus was the leader to the quarter pole in :28.3, but Kinnder High Class took over that role and wheeled the field through middle splits of :57.2 and 1:27.3. A :28.3 closing quarter was enough to earn her the half-length decision over Toccoa Falls in 1:56.2. Race favourite Heavensdor Hanover was third.
The three-year-old daughter of Royalty For Life-Majestic Joy has put together a sparkling record to 10-1-1 from 13 trips to the track this season after going 0-for-7 last year. The filly has banked $83,415 to date.
Oney Hall now boasts a five-race winning streak thanks to his 1:54 score in a $28,000 conditioned assignment for the tandem of driver Trevor Henry and trainer Bob McIntosh.
Henry got away fourth with the four-year-old son of Deweycheatumnhowe-On With The Show before marching him to the top in the backstretch. Grandma Heidi cut the opening quarter in :27.2, but it was Oney Hall in charge through middle splits of :56.3 and 1:25.2 before using a :28.3 closing quarter to win by two lengths over Zig Zag. Grandma Heidi was third.
Sent off as the even-money favourite, Oney Hall improved his 2020 record to 7-2-0 from 10 trips to the track. Alan Leavitt owns the 12-time winner who pushed his lifetime earnings over $110,000 with the victory.
