Series Mania At Kawartha Downs

A pair of series kicked off at Kawartha Downs on Tuesday, with trotters battling in five $5,000 eliminations of the Fall Trotting Series and pacers waging war in four $6,000 eliminations of the Just For The Boys Series

Kurlymo got things underway with a 1:59.1 score in his elimination of the Fall Trotting Series. The seven-year-old son of Angus Hall sat third for the opening half before brushing to the top and drawing away to a 1-1/2 length score over Muckross in 1:59.1. Tagmaster was third. The heavily-favoured gelding won for the fourth time this season for trainer Laura Winacott, who co-owns the trotter with Barry McClennan of Cavan, ON.

Lemon Candy won as he pleased for trainer/driver Per Henriksen in a time of 2:00. The four-year-old son of Kadabra opened up to win by three lengths over Lil Richard, with Devils Magic a distant third. It was the second win of the year for the gelding, who is owned by To Jan Larsen of Norwood, ON.

Pearl Of Capri crushed her trotting counterparts by 22 lengths in the third elimination. Trainer/driver Tomas Dalborg had her in control every step of the way en route to the 1:57 tally over Manet Hanover and Koekemoer. Eirik Djuve of Sola, NOR holds the ownership papers on the 17-time winner.

Mustang Mirabel and driver Gord Brown were parked past the mid-way point, but that didn’t stop them from scoring by six lengths in 1:59.1. Mopey Corey was a best-of-the-rest runner-up in the mile, with third prize going to Jaypee Gill Cherie. John MacMillan trains the four-year-old gelded son of Fill V for Dobe Stables of Rideau Ferry, ON.

I Gopher Gold and owner/trainer/driver Brian Collins of Peterborough, ON erupted for a 13-1 upset in their elimination, rallying from far back to score by three-quarters of a length over Cowboys Like Us in a time of 2:01.2. Autocrat, who was sent off as the 3-2 favourite, came up three-quarters of a length short, as well. The victory was just the second triumph in 29 trips to the track this season for the six-year-old daughter of CR Royal Flush.

Senateur Mirabel used his off-the-pace skills to pick up a 1:57.1 victory in the opening elimination of the Just For The Boys Series. The three-year-old son of Maccowan Seelster drew off to win by a length over Intended To Win, with Royalpainndastreos rounding out the top three finishers. Gord Brown guided the John MacMillan trainee to his fourth win of the 2010 campaign. The colt is owned by MacMillan and the Dobe Stables of Rideau Ferry, ON.

Premium Bliss made a bold three-wide move at the three-quarter pole and prevailed by a half-length margin in his $6,000 assignment for the tandem of driver Aaron Byron and owner/trainer Jeff Byron of Thornton, ON. The four-year-old son of Heartbeat Mindale won as he pleased by defeating Uncle Josh and Pretty Boy Cam. It was the third win of the season for the gelding.

Jebswesternshake was a much-the-best winner in his assignment, winning by 4-1/4 lengths in a time of 1:56.1 for driver James MacDonald and trainer Jeff Brewer. The five-year-old son of Western Hanover defeated Dragoninthesky and Lils Destiny. Vince Orlando of Leamington and Angela Brewer of Puslinch, ON share the ownership on the gelding, who is now a six-time winner in his career.

Talking Book survived a first-over journey to take the final elimination on the Tuesday card. The four-year-old son of Real Desire, who was handled by Gord Brown, eked out a half-length score over Midnight Horizon. Third prize was earned by Midnight Baran. Bruce and Sean Winning of Madoc, ON share ownership on the gelding, who has put together a 7-for-22 record this season.
