Racing last at the top of the stretch, Anders Bluestone closed in spectacular fashion to overtake his five opponents and score a 1:54.3 victory in the $23,000 Open/Handicap trot.
Meanwhile, Dingys Boy and Bellas Spunkypunk won Wednesday’s $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) Colt and Gelding trot preliminary legs at Dover Downs.
With 2011 Matron winner Big Rigs leading the compact field into the stretch, Anders Bluestone racing last in the field appeared out of consideration. Ross Wolfenden pulled the Yankee Glide-Annette Hanover six-year-old to the outside and thundered past them all to the finish line. It was win number 15 for the pride of owners Ken Wood and Bill Dittmar raising his seasonal earnings to $334,050. Sun Of A Victory with Daryl Bier closed well to take second in front of Big Rigs.
Dingys Boy, winner of the DSBF Harrington final, kicked off the Dover Downs freshman events scoring a 2:01.1 triumph in the first preliminary leg for colt and gelding pacers. Trainer-driver Bryan Truitt drove the Giant Hit-Imps Flirt gelding which he owns with Jesse Lewis. Command Flight (Bobby Clark) was second with Cashmere Briefs (Vince Copeland) third. Triple Command was a late scratch. Dingys Boy has a record of three wins in six starts with two seconds and a third. He has won $67,775 in purses.
In the other $20,000 prelim, Corey Callahan guided Bellas Spunkypunk, owned by Stop The Jade Farm, to a 2:02.4 score, his second in four starts. The Super Punk-Nubella gelding overtook race favourite Royal Briefing (Art Stafford, Jr.) by using the passing lane and getting up in the final stride. Solo Command (Jim Morand) finished third.
The DSBF Two-Year-Old Colt and Gelding second prelim is set for next Wednesday. The top eight point-getters race in the $100,000 final on Nov. 28.
