The opening round of the Autumn Series for two- and three-year-old Ontario sired pacing fillies went postward Monday evening at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and it was a pretty good night for the favourites.
Sirius Star, who was sent off at odds of 1-9, was a front-stepping winner in her $8,500 division in 2:01 for Team Horner.
Mike Horner put the three-year-old daughter of Mach Three-Siri Hanover on the lead right from the outset and after chopping out fractions of :29.2, 1:00.3 and 1:31.2 she kicked home in :29.3 to win by 8-1/4 lengths over Butterfly Kisses. Blackcreek Rosebud was a well-beaten third.
Trainer Mark Horner co-owns the pacing lass with Douglas Wilson of Dorchester, Ont. It was the filly’s third win of the season and the fourth of her career. She’s put away more than $18,000 in earnings to date.
Town Delinquent used come-from-behind tactics to take the second division in 2:00.4 for driver Andy Moore and owner/trainer Diana McIntosh.
The three-year-old daughter of Up The Credit-Elegance N Style sat fifth through the first half before making a three-wide move at the leaders on the way to the three-quarter pole. Sent off at odds of 4-1, Town Delinquent kicked home in :30.3 to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Cantstopthefeelin, with third prize going to Brightside Rhia.
The victory improved her 2019 record to 2-6-1 from 12 starts and the lion’s share of the loot lifted her lifetime earnings to $16,721.
Marzannk Hanover was a front-stepping winner in the final division in a time of 2:00 for the duo of driver Scott Coulter and trainer Kevin McMaster.
The two-year-old daughter of Mach Three-Monte Carlo Madam whacked out fractions of :29, :59.4 and 1:30 before cruising home in :30 to win by 3-1/4 lengths over Bettors Burn. Get It Done Donna took home third prize.
Darryl Newbigging of Komoka, Ont. owns the rookie who now boasts a 2-3-1 record from 10 starts. Along the way she’s managed to bank over $14,000.
Shippen Out closed from last to capture the $8,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers for owner/trainer/driver Mike Sumner.
The seven-year-old son of Badlands Hanover-Shipps Bikini watched Im Not Bad lay down fractions of :29, :59.2 and 1:29.2 before staging a late rally. Shippen Out stormed home in :29.4 to win by a length over Im Not Bad in 2:00. Third prize went to Cullen Keefe N.
It was the 26th lifetime win for the gelding who now owns a 7-7-4 record from 29 trips to the track this season. The victory pushed his lifetime earnings over $260,000.
