Dean MacNevin, the newly crowned Champion of the 2010 TROT Canada National Handicapping Championship, is still reeling from winning the grand prize
of $25,000.
“I haven’t eaten for two days…just thinking about how I’m going to use that $25,000,” said the Charlottetown resident.
He’ll get to relive the excitement of last Saturday’s win all over again this Saturday when he will be honoured at his home track, Red Shores Charlottetown, and presented with his $25,000 cheque.
When reviewing his strategy for the TCNHC, he stated, “I wanted to get an early lead; I marked my programs on the flight to Toronto and I had a ? beside Blissed Out. I also made all my wagers at once, at the start of the competition.”
His strategy paid off and MacNevin didn’t have to wait long to cash. Blissed Out was his first wager and the 29-1 shot from the Rene Allard stable won the first race at Woodbine putting $73 in the bank for MacNevin. He followed up with four more winners to give him a total of $105.50.
Players had to make fifteen $2 Win & Place wagers over the course of the evening on races from Western Fair, Georgian Downs and Woodbine Racetrack. Five wagers were on mandatory races selected by contest officials and the remaining ten races were optional races, chosen by each player.
Standardbred Canada extends their congratulations to Dean and to all of this year’s TCNHC players.
A big thank you to the management and staff of Georgian Downs for being such great hosts and a thank you to our partner tracks from across the country for their support of this national initiative: Clinton Raceway, Flamboro Downs, Fraser Downs, Georgian Downs, Grand River Raceway, Hanover Raceway, Kawartha Downs, Red Shores at Charlottetown, Rideau Carleton Raceway, Sudbury Raceway, Western Fair Raceway.
A complete list of players and their final standings will be posted on line tomorrow.
