The first ever West Meadows Raceway meet came to a close on Sunday afternoon in Regina

, Saskatchewan.

In the featured $1,700 Open Pace, Stonebridge Camlot ($9.80) nosed out reigning class champion Sophio Hanover, who was looking to go undefeated at the four-day meet.

Stonebridge Camlot, winner of the first Open Pace at the track on Sept. 18, converted from the pocket and held off Sophio Hanover and Kirk Rogers for the 2:08.2 triumph over the sloppy track. Tajwon and Richard Remillard finished three and a quarter lengths behind in third.

Glen LeDrew drove the nine-year-old gelded son of Camluck-Reona Hanover to his ninth win in 14 seasonal starts. Stonebridge Camlot started the year in the care of trainer Ken Hanson and owner Annabelle Pirie of Strathclair, MB, and after spending part of the summer with Blake Piwnuik and then Tyler Redwood, he was claimed back for $3,000 at the end of August at Yorkton Exhibition.

LeDrew, Hanson and Pirie also enjoyed a victory with Sergeirachpaninoff ($8.70). The nine-year-old gelded son of The Firepan-Take A Pander went from last to first in a $3,000 claiming series final, winning by two and three-quarter lengths in 2:08.3. The win was his first at West Meadows and third of the season in 14 starts.

Tyler Redwood also scored a training-driving double on the eight-race card.

Where to go West Meadows. Bigger and better even, next year. Nothing short of that. Harness racing is here for the long term. Come give us a try next year, be it Regina or Yorkton, or better yet, both tracks.
