Mappos Lion ($2.40) extended his win streak to five with a 1:50 career-best performance during Friday night's (Oct. 9) harness racing card at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Mappos Lion, trained and driven by Paul MacDonell while racing in Ontario, delivered as the 1-5 favourite in a $20,000 conditioned pace for non-winners of three races or $54,000 lifetime.

Leaving from post six, Mappos Lion pursued outside leaver Captainofrocknroll (Jody Jamieson) and was forced three-wide into the first turn as Beach Party (Jonathan Drury) made an early move to loop the leader to the quarter in :25.4. Mappos Lion pressed on and cleared Beach Party in the backstretch, reaching the half in :54.2. The 1-5 favourite raced on to three-quarters in 1:23 and began to open up down the lane on the way to a 2-1/4-length victory over the late-closing Control Heaven (Louis-Philippe Roy). Twin B Heart Throb finished third.

Owned and bred by Carol Campbell of Baddeck, N.S., the four-year-old Sunshine Beach-Pacific Playmate gelding began his win streak in Charlottetown and has won four in a row at Mohawk while climbing the class ladder.

After starting his career at Truro Raceway by winning his first of two starts during his debut season last year, Mappos Lion is 11-for-14 this year to put his earnings at $40,143.

Friday's featured race, a $26,000 high-level fillies and mares conditioned pace, was won by the Tony Alagna-trained Treacherous Reign with a :25.2 final frame propelling her past pacesetter Machnhope down the stretch to the two-length victory in 1:50.3. Driven by Bob McClure, she paid $7.60 to win as the 5-2 second choice to Lit De Rose, who finished second. Lyons Tilt Hanover edged out Machnhope for third.

The five-year-old daughter of Captaintreacherous, winner of the 2019 Fan Hanover at Mohawk, earned her third victory of the season from a dozen starts and 16th win overall while moving closer to the $1 million mark in lifetime earnings for owners Alagna Racing, Big Als Stables, Let It Ride Stables and Bottom Line Racing.

In other action, Jugette champion Scarlett Hanover was prepping for next weekend's Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final in a $24,000 fillies and mares conditioned pace and finished second, just heads apart from older mares Cousin Mary and Sporty Tori. Closing off cover, she just missed as Jeff Williamson's eight-year-old mare Cousin Mary, driven by Anthony Haughan, prevailed first-up ahead of her quick-closing rivals in 1:51.4. Other top OSS Gold fillies Dabarndawgswatchin and 2-1 favourite Voelz Delight finished strong to her outside.
