
Respectable Son was the highest-priced yearling of the 11th annual Buckeye Classic Yearling Sale on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at the Champions Center Expo in Springfield, Ohio.
Respectable Son, Hip 209, went for $83,333 ($60,000 USD) to Ryan Stahl of Republic, Ohio. The son of In Range-Beautiful, consigned by Trackside Farm, is a half-brother to Buckeye Stallion Series leg and Northfield Park Open Trot winner Irresistible Son ($254,191 - 1:54.3) and Grateful ($188,850 - 1:54). Beautiful, a seven-time winner, is an And Away We Go half-sister to A Tc Queenie, who won multiple Ohio Sires Stakes legs.
Soaring Sophia, Hip 248, brought a winning bid of $69,444 ($50,000 USD) from Joyce McClelland of Zanesville, Ohio. The In Range-Devils Advocate filly, a half-sister to Diaboli Hanover ($158,512 - 1:56.4), was consigned by Dundee Stables. Soaring Sophia’s third dam, Gleam, was a Breeders Crown and Hambletonian Oaks champion and a Dan Patch divisional award winner.
Wayne Mast Jr. of Dundee, Ohio, purchased both Rose Run Cash, Hip 136, and The Fire Profit, Hip 186, for $65,278 ($47,000 USD) each, the third-highest price of the sale.
Rose Run Cash, consigned by Rose Run Farm, is by What The Hill out of Shes Nutz, a full sister to Grand Circuit stakes winner and Hambletonian runner-up Crazed and New York Sire Stakes champion Gift Card. Her family also includes Ontario Sires Stakes Gold winner Knight Angel.
The Fire Profit is a daughter of Catch The Fire out of Windfall Profits, whose granddam, Armbro Amoretto, won the Breeders Crown and Mistletoe Shalee. The Fire Profit was consigned by Abby Stables.
A total of 242 yearlings passed through the ring, with sales totalling $3,574,306 ($2,573,500 USD) for an average of $14,770 ($10,634 USD).
