Woodmere Kennedie topped the 2022 Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale held on Friday (Oct. 7) in Crapaud, P.E.I., a sale that boasted the highest total sales ever recorded in Atlantic Canadian harness racing history.

Selling as Hip 67, Woodmere Kennedie was purchased for $43,000 by Mike Pollard. Consigned by Woodmere Farms, the Rollwithitharry filly is out of the Four Starzzz Shark mare Four Starz Roe, a $300,000 earner and sibling to Maritimes stakes stars Big League and Untouchable One. Woodmere Kennedie is a full sister to stakes winner Woodmere Fenn (1:56h - $35,014).

Bidding also reached the $40,000 mark on Tobins Chester, Hip 13, who was purchased by Donald MacRae. Consigned by Wendell Williams, the gelding is by Shanghai Phil out of the Grinfromeartoear mare Putnam MacKenzie. Tobins Chester is a half sibling to Atlantic champion Tobins Brownie (1:53.3h - $148,839) and 1:50 pacer Carlisimo ($356,272).

More yearlings from the Woodmere Farms consignment were among the top sellers as the gelding Woodmere Sinatra (Rollwithitharry-Sinpirational) and the filly Woodmere Katie (Arthur Blue Chip-Wild Ride Hanover) were each purchased for $37,000. The former was bought by JR Skinner and the latter was purchased by Kirk MacRae. Woodmere Katie is a full sister to last year's $68,000 sale topper Woodmere Xspeedia.

Dusty Lane Harper claimed the highest trotting price at $31,000 for new owner MCR Dustylane Harper Group. Dusty Lane Farms of Cornwall raised the sister to undefeated two-year-old standout Irish Ray.

Total sales on the day ringed in at a new record of $1,891,000 with the 126 yearlings averaging $15,007.

“Yet again the commitment that East Coast breeders and owners are showing to the industry was recognized in a fantastic way,” said Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale Committee Chair Nicholas Oakes. “We topped our sales totals from the record breaking 2021 sale and had an offering that had something for everybody.

"To see the excitement a 14-year-old had after saving up to buy a $3,000 filly with his own money is every bit as important as the 34 horses that sold for over $20,000. The future shines bright for East Coast racing and on behalf of the Sale Committee I want to thank everyone for coming out to Crapaud and we look forward to seeing you all in 2023.”
