One of the toughest pacers to compete over Rideau Carleton Raceway the past few years, Match Bayama was euthanized after an injury

sustained during Sunday's Preferred Pace.

Owned by Frank Spagnolo of Ottawa, Ont., Les Ecuries Giroux Inc. and Claude Giroux of Gatineau, Que., Match Bayama won 38 races and banked nearly $375,000 for trainer Sebastien Giroux, who plucked the son of Goliath Bayama from a claiming event at Georgian Downs for $18,000 in June of 2008. Match Bayama won 12 of his 38 races at the Preferred level at Rideau.

"It is definitely something that we'll struggle to get over," said Giroux's wife, Geny. "He'll always be irreplaceable, no matter how many horses come in and out of our barn! He'll be sorely missed."

The injury came to Match Bayama's left front leg. He did not finish the race.

So sorry to hear about Match. VERY tough older Racehorse. The public could never be disappointed laying down their money on Match Bayama. He always gave everything he had. My condolences.
