On Monday, October 4, quarter-horse racetrack Hialeah Park announced that it will reduce takeouts rates on all wagers to an industry low 12%

.

“We are setting the stage for what with once again become one of the industry’s premier race meets," Hialeah Park General Manager Randy Soth said via release. "We appreciate all the fan support during our rebuilding process and this seemed like the best way to say ‘thank you’ to everyone.”

Hialeah Park will, once again, offer a betting menu which will include exacta, trifecta, superfecta, Pick 3 and Pick 4 wagering, in addition to the standard Win, Place and Show wagers. The Fifty Cent (.50) Pick Four will also return and superfecta wagers will continue to carry a dime minimum. All other wagers will have a $1 base.

“We want the entire racing industry to equate Hialeah Park with great value," Hialeah Park Track President John J. Brunetti, Jr. said via release. "What better way than to announce that we are now the track with ‘the lowest takeout in the nation.’"

The 24-day quarter-horse racing season, the track’s second following an eight year absence, is set to get underway Friday, December 3 with live racing every Friday-Sunday through January 23, 2011.

First-race post time will remain 2:05 p.m.

A big congratulations to hialeah horse park and there track president John J Brunetti JR. Finally another track president other then Jeff Gural who actually gets it. It appears that he understands that his product has to offer value to his customers and he has done that by reducing the track takeout rate to 12%.

I am a former harness better turned sports better and poker player who would love to bet big dollars again on the races but the harness game has made it loud and clear they are not interested in guys like me who demand value and a fair take out rate. They are interested in people who pay no attention to this and will bet into pools with excessive take out where they can pick there pockets every time they come thru the door. Well guess what, the days of giving people a free hotdog or hamburger once a year and thinking that is going to keep them happy are over and they are over for good.

Thousands and thousands of people like me are speaking loud and clear with our wallets and we are telling the race game that you won't get our support unless you get competitive with other forms of gambling by reducing the track take out to a maximum of 10% in every pool. You can mark my words on this. The day will come where the take out rate is reduced to 10%, it may take 5yrs, 10yrs, or even 20yrs and it won't happen because it is the smart thing to do or the right thing to do, it will happen because the race game will be brought to there knees and begging for customers to support them.
