Driver Steve Condren officially added another accolade to his outstanding credentials as he was inducted into the Milton Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday evening, Oct. 30.
After a 15-month delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the the 5th annual Milton Sports Hall of Fame ceremony for the 2020 inductees was held at the Milton Sports Centre.
The Milton Sports Hall of Fame recognizes and honours the sports accomplishments and contributions of the community, while inspiring the youth of Milton, Ont.
Condren, who last drove on Legends Day 2019 at Clinton Raceway, is one of the most respected and recognized drivers in Canadian harness racing history. He was named Canada’s Driver of the Year in 1997 and was elected to the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2011.
Throughout his Hall of Fame career, Condren recorded 6,859 pari-mutuel driving wins with his mounts earning in excess of $114.9 million in purses. His career highlights include a victory in the 1989 North America Cup with Goalie Jeff, along with multiple Breeders Crown victories and numerous other Grand Circuit wins.
Condren has been associated with Woodbine Entertainment's Mohawk venue in Milton, Ont. for more than 30 years. He was the leader of the Ontario Jockey Club/Woodbine Entertainment circuit as its top driver for multiple years throughout the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s.
The class of 2020 also included athletes Darlene Kranstz (Jiu-Jitsu) and Travis Gerrits (Freestyle Skiing) and builders Bill Rowney (Minor Hockey) and Martha & Pat Gleason (Basketball).
