After 34 years of service with the Woodbine Entertainment Group, the well-liked Alex Botterill, also known as ‘The Sarge,’ is finally hanging up his hat at the age of 84.

Trot Insider has learned that Wednesday, October 30 was Botterill’s last day at Mohawk Racetrack.

Botterill worked for many years in security as well as acting as paddock judge for standardbred qualifiers.

Botterill donated much time to extracurricular activities such as horsemen's charities and organizing the Pony Club rallies that used to take place on the Mohawk property.

Botterill's wife, Shirley (now deceased), also worked for a number of years in the race office.

Botterill, who is long recognized for his gentlemanly turnout and jovial demeanour, will be greatly missed. His reminiscences will resonate through the paddock for years to come.

Please join Standardbred Canada, his former co-workers, horsemen and owners in wishing Alex Botterill continued good health and much happiness in his retirement.
