The undefeated Fast Lane Delila, who set the track record for freshmen filly pacers in her second outing on October 15, prevailed in the first of two divisions for the ladies after converting from a pocket trip and sprinting home in :29.3 over a sloppy track. The daughter of Camcracker-Lindwood Delila and trainer/driver Rod Therres won in 1:56.3 by four and a half lengths over fellow first leg winner Margarets Spirit (Serge Masse), who carved out panels of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:26.3. Shes With Me (Ed Hensley) finished back in third.
Therres and Charles MacFarlane of Victoria, B.C. share ownership of Fast Lane Delila, who is four-for-four with $14,500 earned.
After finishing sixth to Fast Lane Delila in her first start last week, Stormy Tuesday stepped it up a notch and broke her maiden in the second filly division tonight. Been Down Before (Jim Marino) battled Dealingwithhos (Darren Howald) for the early lead but settled back in the pocket after the opening quarter in :28.4. As the field headed to the half in 1:00.4, Stormy Tuesday launched a first over bid went head-to-head with Dealingwithhos past three-quarter in 1:29.1 and eventually gained the upper hand. She pulled ahead down the lane to score in 1:58.3. Red Star Tweedy (Mike Borgeois) finished one and three-quarters of a length behind in second with Dealingwithhos third.
Stormy Tuesday is trained by Debra McCarthy and owned by breeders J J J Stables of Aldergrove, B.C. and Mark Anderson of Willows, California.
Dontmakemebeg kick started the action for the colts and geldings with a wire-to-wire victory for driver Jim Marino and trainer Ed Hensley. The Kents On Nuke-Zenobia gelding carved out fractions of :28.1, :58.4 and 1:28.3 before sprinting home in :29.3 for the triumph in 1:58.1 by eight and three-quarter lengths. Dont Say Anything (Kevin Anderson) rallied from the back of the pack for second while Red Star Roman (Jamie Gray) rounded out the top three.
The winner of three races in five starts and $13,569 is also owned and bred by J J J Stables along with Alan Anderson of Willows, California.
Those winning connections returned to sweep the next colt division with Nobody Can, who prevailed in 1:57.2 with trainer Hensley at the lines. Noboday Can fired off a :28-second first quarter before yielding to first leg winner True Humility (Rod Therres). After following the new leader through middle panels of :57.4 and 1:27.3, Nobody Can popped the pocket and used a :29.3 final frame to edge out True Humility for the half-length score. The winner’s stablemate Who Hit Jimmy (Scott Knight), who is also owned by J J J Stables, was third.
Nobody Can, a homebred son of Kents On Nuke-Battalia Hanover, is now two-for-three with $8,350 earned.
Three-year-old pacers will face off on Saturday night in the second leg of the BC Breeders Stake and the top nine money earners will return for the $30,000 freshmen and $75,000 sophomore finals on Wednesday, November 11.

After winning a pair of BC Breeders Stake, Hensley added two more training wins to his tally on the regular program for a grand slam on Friday night. Twentyfivetolife (1:57) won the seventh race for J J J Stables and Casandra Uppal of Blaine, Washinton and Whitesand Lord (1:56.3) won the ninth race for Casandra Uppal. Hensley also drove the Michael Glover-trained Kiss My Cam (1:55) to victory in the fourth race.
In this week’s $12,000 Open Pace, the 9-5 entry of Lilsharkshooter and Lil Dude Starrbuck finished 1-2 for trainer Scott Knight and the Lil Dude Ranch of Surrey, B.C.
Jim Marina sent Lilsharkshooter to the opening quarter in :27.2 before Lil Dude Starrbuck and Knight took over and carved out the middle fractions of :56.4 and 1:25. Entering the stretch, Lilsharkshooter converted from the two-hole and nipped his stablemate at the wire for the 1:55.1 score. Favourite Just Plug It In (Ed Hensley) finished third.
Winning for the third time in 19 starts this year, Lilsharkshooter lifted his earnings to $43,228. The five-year-old son of Cams Card Shark-Loving Art now sports 14 wins on his record and $242,967 in earnings.
