'Miss Pom' Scores Third 'Summit' Win

E L Miss Pom kicked off the fifth leg of the Barrie Ford Summit Series for $6,000 claiming trotters with her third win in a row on Saturday night at Georgian Downs

. Round five featured six $5,600 divisions.

Claimed from the second leg of the series for $7,500 by trainer Rene Allard and Gilles Fleury of Mascouche, Que., E L Miss Pom has strung together three consecutive 'Summit' wins since with her latest tonight in 1:58.1. Simon Allard guided the seven-year-old Wonder Worker mare to victory in front end fashion, holding off first leg winner J H Spur by a quarter length.

Second leg winner Spirit Of Canada, who was claimed during the third round for $6,000 by Michigan's Candace Cirasuola, romped to a five length victory for driver Scott Coulter and trainer Joe Cirasuola. The seven-year-old Striking Sahbra gelding recorded the fastest mile of the fifth leg with his 1:56.4 effort.

Veteran trotter Satelite Dish turned back a first over challenge from Coriander Please and held off repeat winner Leonidas De Vie by three-quarters of a length for his first series win in 1:59 for driver Billy Davis Jr. and trainer Cory Fuller. Alex McNabb of Minesing, Ont. owns the 11-year-old Overcomer gelding, who was a runner-up in the first two opening legs.

Following a pair of runner-up finishes in previous legs, Striking Lightning, with Dan Clements in the sulky, rallied home from fifth for his first series win in 1:59.3 by a quarter length. Mike Sinclair trained the five-year-old son of Striking Sahbra for owner Rosemary Shelswell of Cookstown, Ont., but will now head to the Allard barn. Allard and Fleury claimed the winner for $6,000.

Schuyler rallied three-wide from the backfield past the third quarter station and came on to upset his division in 2:00 with Scott Young in the bike for trainer Paul Reid. The four-year-old Ken Warkentin gelding was also a first time series winner for owner Scott Maracle of Brantford, Ont.

Nineanddivine was a wire-to-wire winner in 1:59.3 in the final division of the night for driver Paul MacKenzie and trainer Craig Yates. The Self Possessed nine-year-old, owned by Frank Lamacchia of Brantford, Ont. and Tony Miceli of Mississauga, Ont., previously won his third leg division.
