Dragon By The Sea hustled off the car for Tyler Smith, clearing her six opponents before the quarter in :26.3, then raced to the half in :54.4 and three-quarters in 1:22.2. Fearless Ginger (Chris Page) applied pressure in the stretch but could only close the gap to three-quarters of a length as Dragon By The Sea completed the victory in 1:50.2. Hey Hey Momma (Luke Hanners) was another three-quarters of a length back in third.
Dragon By The Sea, a five-year-old Downbytheseaside-Prima Dragon mare, is owned by John Van Horn. She scored her sixth win of the season in 30 attempts for trainer Jeff Smith. Her lifetime record now stands at 20-for-78 lifetime, and she has now banked $519,322.
No Foolin April took the $33,333 Fillies and Mares Open II Handicap Pace, fronting the field in a 1:50.2 score with Jeremy Smith aboard. She won by 2-1/2 lengths over Sarasota Hanover (Page), with Shortys Girl (Trevor Smith) third. Adam Short owns, trains, and bred No Foolin April, a four-year-old daughter of Nob Hill High-Princess Baby Ella.
In the $25,000 conditioned claiming pace for fillies and mares, it was Suprize Me Went (Jeremy Smith) who snuck up the passing lane to take the win in 1:50.3 by a head over Real Star (Trevor Smith). Beckoning Yankee (Tyler Smith) was third. The winning four-year-daughter of Jk Endofanera-Arealsurprize is owned by trainer Chris McGuire.
Jeremy Smith recorded a grand slam on the 14-race card.
