On a day when nine of 10 winning horses established new life speed marks at Colonial Downs, the Dan O’Mara-trained two-year-old filly trotter True Day Dream went beyond that and tied a track record that had stood for five years.
True Day Dream entered Wednesday’s fifth race with five wins, a second and two thirds in eight career starts, so it came as no surprise that she was sent off as the 1-2 betting favourite. O’Mara smartly directed his Infinitif filly to the pocket immediately and let Sir Alex Z Tam go to the front and cut initial quarter panels of :27.4, :56 and 1:24. True Day Dream came first over late in the turn and passed the leader with ease in mid-stretch en route a two length triumph in 1:54.1.
The winner equalled the 1:54.1 mark set by Locksweeper in November 2007, which was authored ironically by O’Mara as well.
With Wednesday’s win, True Day Dream’s freshman year bankroll surged over the $75,000 mark for owner Joseph Hess of New Milford, New Jersey.
Speed also prevailed in the other races, led by Mary Dawsone’s Docs Bonanza who came back from last in the turn to nose out Dicks Dandy at the wire in 1:49.4. The five-year-old The Panderosa horse is three-for-three this meet.
Other life marks were established by Crown Heights (1:51), Pro Deuce (1:52.4), Cheetah Feet (1:52.4), Hillcrest Domingo (1:52.4), Paul T (1:53.3), Apparition (1:55.1) and Bam Ba Lam (1:59.1).
