Legendary horse racing announcer Dan Loiselle, who retired this past May, will be honoured as one of this year's inductees into the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame at the 22nd annual induction dinner, which takes place on Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Old Mill Inn.
Loiselle's race-calling career spanned 47 years beginning as a Standardbred announcer for the Ontario Jockey Club. For the past 29 years, he's been the voice of Canadian thoroughbred racing at Woodbine Racetrack, adding his stamp on 28 editions of the Queen's Plate.
Loiselle will be inducted into the Hall of Fame's builder category. Other inductees include builder John Doig, responsible for Scotiabank Hockey, as well as athletes Barbara Underhill and Paul Martini (pairs ice skating), and Scott Stoneburgh (squash).
The purpose of the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame is to honour, for all time, those athletes, administrators, officials, media and individuals who have achieved the highest standard of excellence in sport. In perpetuating the deeds of those Honoured Members, the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame seeks to encourage and inspire excellence in all fields of athletic endeavour within the community.
Tickets are available for $175 per person (with a $100 tax receipt upon request) on the Hall of Fame's website at etobicokesports.ca.
