Jim Marino-trained two-year-olds Rockin N Talkin and Bettor Cat asserted their divisional dominance in the fourth preliminary leg of the Robert Millbank Memorial B.C. Breeders Stakes on Friday night (October 26) at Fraser Downs.
Owned by Marino and J J J Stables, the rookie pacers won their respective $15,000 divisions by four lengths for perfect records through the first four legs of the series.
Following up his 1:55.1 career-best performance from a week ago, Rockin N Talk (sired by Custard The Dragon) pocketed Spiderdman early on and cruised to an easy 2:00.1 tally while Bettor Cat (Bettors Delight) rushed to the lead in front of the grandstand the first time and took a new lifetime mark of 1:55.2.
There were also repeat winners in the Mary Murphy Breeders Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies as J J J Stables' homebred Scardy Cat held off Hurried Romance by a head in 1:53.3 and Custard Lite circled the field to prevail in a three-across finish by three-quarters of a length in 1:55.1 for owners Lorne Duffield and Rod Hennessy.
Scardy Cat equalled her career mark that she took in last week's round with Paul Davis aboard. Deb McCarthy trains the daughter of Sportswriter who won the Betty Millbank freshman final in 2017.
Preston Shaw drove the Gord Abbott-trained Custard Lite, a Custard The Dragon filly who has won all three of the prelims in which she has competed.
