Give Em Heck scored the fastest win of the Thursday evening program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Gilles Barrieau engineered the winning trip for trainer Jackie Matheson in race 8 for a purse of $1,800. Give Em Heck, a son of Perfect Union, is owned by Colin Sheppard of Spaniards Bay, N.L., as he stopped the clock in 1:57.4 over a track with a two-second variant for the wind. Narragansett (Driven by Jason Hughes) closed up for second place with Jetster (Corey MacPherson) finishing third.
It was a big night for trainer Glenn Claybourne as both members of his two-horse stable visited the winner's circle. Glenview Piper recorded a maiden record of 2:06.3 with Gary Chappell at the controls, while Wedgewood captured the race 7 $1,650 trot with Chappell driving for owner-trainer Claybourne to give them both a double on the program.
Race 9 on the program saw a lighting issue as the track lights malfunctioned while horses and drivers were racing past the five-eighths marker. The race continued without incident as Jason Hughes scored his second winner of the night with Beckenbauer in a 2:03.4 mile for owners Robi and Kurt Hughes of Stratford.
The lights were re-illuminated after a short delay and race 10 was conducted normally with Jinglewriter winning in 2:00.4 for driver Adam Merner, trainer Stephen Gass and owner Alex MacPhee of Clyde River. Another lighting malfunction occurred after the conclusion of race 10 leading to officials with Red Shores cancelling the final two races of the program for the safety of all participants.
