It has been reported that both Dr. Ian Moore and seven-year-old Astreos horse Astronomical are leaving the province of PEI
.
Atlantic Post Calls has reported that Dr. Moore, one of Canada’s most successful trainers in recent years, won’t be spending time in the Maritimes training horses this winter. He explained that he will be taking a six-month leave of absence from the Atlantic Vet College and plans to spend the winter training at Southern Oaks Training Centre in Sorrento, Florida, roughly 40 miles north of Orlando.
Dr. Moore will take this season’s two-year-old stars Malicious and Wellthereyougo to Florida to prep for their three-year-old season, and hopes to have at least four two-year-olds in training.
“We (partners Ron McLellan and Serge Savard) picked up a Rocknroll Hanover colt at Lexington (for $42,000) and plan to buy three at the Harrisburg Sale,” said Dr. Moore, who stated that he will be back at the Vet College in May.
Dr. Moore also announced that world champion free-legged aged horse Astronomical will be moving to a new stallion station in 2010. The handsome some of Astreos will stand at Casimir Farm in Ontario,
A winner of nearly $800,000, Astronomical has stood the last two years at Meridian Farm in Milton, PEI.
“Astronomical will be the fastest son of Astreos standing in Ontario and I believe he will be well received,” Dr. Moore said.
