Amigo Volo Triumphant In Preferred Trot At Mohawk

Amigo Volo returned to the winner's circle in the $36,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday evening Oct. 21 with James MacDonald in the bike. 

MacDonald sent the Meg Crone student from post two in the field of six featured trotters. The pair landed in third through the quarter in :27 and half in :56.2. After the half-mile marker, Amigo Volo moved to the outside and continued onward through the three-quarters in 1:24.3. With a sprint to the wire, he found himself in a blanket finish among three horses, all separated by only a head. Amigo Volo did the better work and won in 1:51.3. Pacesetting Quebec Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy) held on for second over Safe Conduct (Chris Christoforou). 

Amigo Volo (Father Patrick-Margarita Momma) is a seven-year-old gelding owned by Pinske Stables and David J. Miller. He moved his seasonal tally to 8-3-3 in 22 starts with $244,706 banked. In his career, Amigo Volo shows more than $2.6 million banked with 40 victories. He paid $4.80 to win.

Four divisions of the Harvest Series for Ontario-sired two-year-old fillies were contested on the card with two splits for each gait. Each division carried a $17,000 purse as the first leg of the series.

The Harvest Series was open to Ontario-sired two-year-olds that were non-winners of $30,000 in 2024 as of midnight, Sept. 30, 2024. The second $17,000 leg will be contested on Monday, Oct. 28 with the $30,000 final on Monday, Nov. 4. 

Maritime star Oceanview Rumours ($4.40) took the first division for freshman trotters with James MacDonald holding the lines for trainer Shane Arsenault. The pair won by a half-length at the wire in a lifetime best 1:55.1 over Stormont Beautiful (Bob McClure). Bright Green (Louis-Philippe Roy) finished third.

Breeders William and Scott Roloson co-own the Green Manalishi S-Tyne Valley filly with Joey Aylward. The first start with conditioner Arsenault was the victory that moved her tally to 7-0-1 in eight races with $42,647 pocketed. After leaving Canada's east coast with a six-race win streak, the filly now sports seven straight scores.

Debra ($2.40) left from post six and won every pole from gate-to-wire to take the second trot division. Bob McClure provided the winning drive for William McClure with a 2-1/2-length score in 1:56.4. Pier Ho Emerald (Tyler Jones) was second with Marie H (Trevor Henry) third.

William and Ryan McClure co-own the Muscle Mass-Gradabra filly, who won her third race from six career appearances. She shows $22,900 earned and posted a career-best time in the mile. 

Windsun Charlotte ($25) posted a 12-1 upset in the first of the two pace splits, moving from sixth to the top and winning by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:54.4. Phil Hudon drove the Betterthancheddar-Windsun Chanel filly for Murray Brethour. Funny Business (Doug McNair) nabbed second and Wicked Craving (Jonathan Drury) completed the show ticket.

A winner of two races in 10 starts and $27,357 in purses, Windsun Charlotte is owned by breeder Windsun Farm Inc.

Promising Moment ($3.90) rounded out the Harvest Series action in the second filly pace with a 2-1/4-length score in 1:53.2, driven by Tyler Borth for Susie Kerwood. Ariels Bet (Travis Cullen) was second and Outtathisworld Deo (Doug McNair) was third.

The daughter of Control The Moment-Unspoken Promise is owned by breeders Howard Taylor and Falcon Racing. She moved her record to 3-2-2 with $37,963 earned from nine starts.
