Ponda Bugatti clearly looked like a classy colt with a decent engine, and as a result the trotting-bred yearling topped the second and final session of the 2023 Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale on Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.
A son of Swan For All - Much Fanfare consigned by Pond A Acres and sold as Hip 360, Ponda Bugatti is a full brother to 2023 Indiana Sires Stakes winner Ponda Grace (1:57.1; $64,820). He was purchased by Indiana's Wrenn Racing for $115,000 and was the only six-figure yearling in the second session.
Pond A Acres consigned the top two yearlings sold in the second session, with Ponda Help securing a $92,000 final bid from Connie Hochstetler of Pinehurst, N.C. Sold as Hip 248, Ponda Help (Helpisontheway - Elin) is a half-sister to local standout Ponda Title (1:55s; $483,420).
Kelseys Reason (Helpisontheway - Kelsey Hanover) fetched a final bid of $90,000 from Wrenn Racing. Consigned by Aron Bontrager and sold as Hip 331, Kelseys Reason is a full sibling to INSS winner Elhelpski (1:56.1; $120,300).
The highest priced pacing-bred yearling of the second session was Hip 280, Gigis Dream. The son of Tellitlikeitis and first foal of stakes winner Gigi From Fiji, Gigis Dream sold for $82,500 to Jamie Macomber, acting as agent. Black Creek Farm consigned the yearling as agent.
Rounding out the top five from Saturday's session was Dreamers Way (Helpisontheway - Busy Being Dreamy) at $80,000. Kyle Hupfer of Pendleton, Ind. collared the Maple Lane Farm-consigned yearling, a half-brother to the accomplished Luv Lorelei (1:52.2s; $319,310) and 2023 Breeders Crown finalist Musclefantastic (1:55.1; $180,865).
A total of 190 yearlings sold on Saturday, with total sales of $3,644,500 and an average of $19,182 on the day.
Overall, 397 yearlings sold over the two days of the 2023 Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale. The gross total for sales came in at $7,954,200, providing a $20,036 average.
