The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) has approved the purse distributions for the 2015 Kentucky Sire Stakes (KYSS), agreeing with the recommendation of the Kentucky Standardbred Development Fund and Kentucky Breeders’ Incentive Fund Advisory Panel.
The 2015 KYSS purse distributions are as follows:
Legs: $15,000/$10,000 split
Finals: $175,000
The Kentucky Sire Stakes is a culmination of a month-long series of preliminary races, with the biggest money earners getting a chance to compete in the finals at the Red Mile. The series includes two and three-year-old pacers and trotters for both fillies and colts.
Additionally, the commission, under the recommendation of the panel, approved purse allocations in the amount of $140,000 to the Kentucky County Fair Circuit and an additional $1,000 per Kentucky Fair. It is estimated there will be seven county fairs and one fair final for a total of eight (in 2015).
“We are delighted the historic Red Mile will once again host the Kentucky Sire Stakes,” said Alan Leavitt, chairman of the advisory panel and member of the KHRC. “The purses are healthy and will continue to grow along with the eligible horse population as a result of the amended regulation, which now includes progeny of resident mares eligible to the Kentucky Sire Stakes.”
Beginning with the breeding season of 2014, the progeny of any mare who is boarded in Kentucky for 180 consecutive days during the year of conception will be eligible to the Kentucky Sire Stakes program regardless of where the sire of her offspring stands.
“It is an exciting direction for the program and provides a unique opportunity for our Kentucky horses having the potential to be dual eligible in multiple programs throughout North America,” Leavitt said.
