A near $100,000 purchase topped day two of the 2019 London Selected Yearling Sale as the auction wrapped on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Armor Seelster, Hip #244 and consigned by Seelster Farms, sold for the highest price Sunday when going for $95,000 to Adriano Sorella of Guelph, ON—who also owns millionaire aged-pacing star Jimmy Freight. The son of Bettors Delight is the fifth foal from the Real Artist mare Winbak Alice and a half brother to Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots champion Azure Seelster. She is also a quarter sister to $2.2-million earner and multiple O’Brien Award winner Lady Shadow.

Saul Seelster, Hip #216, was the highest-priced trotting sale of the second day. The Kadabra colt consigned by Seelster Farms sold for $47,000 to Paul MacDonell of Guelph, ON. He is the second foal from the Deweycheatumnhowe mare Simone Hall and a quarter sister to millionaire Snazzy Millie.

On the sire end Bettors Delight fronted all pacing studs with his 14 yearlings selling for an average price of $63,857 followed by Big Jim, whose 7 yearlings sold for an average $31,714. Kadabra led trotting sires with 7 yearlings selling for an average price of $43,429 while Muscle Mass progeny sold next best with 22 yearlings selling for an average $38,409.

“We had another good sale session this afternoon,” Sale Manager Ann Straatman said. “I was hoping to be able to repeat last year’s average - we came very close and I’m happy about that. The crowd was enthusiastic and active. We couldn’t do this without our outstanding consignors, talented auctioneers and crew; our office staff and all the temporary help that make this event successful. It is truly a team effort."

The second day of the London Sale saw 172 yearlings enter the ring and selling for around $2.9 million total following a record-setting opening. With 291 entered, yearlings grossed $6,285,000 over both days, down from the $7,064,800 gross from 312 yearlings last year. The average price of yearlings sold also dropped from $22,644 in 2018 to $21,598.
