Joseph Michael Returns Home A Winner

After making a trip to Ontario for the Simcoe Stakes, Joseph Michael returned to his home province of New Brunswick and picked up where he left off with a victory in the $1,600 Winners Over Pace at Exhibition Park Raceway

on Saturday afternoon.

With regular reinsman Stephen Trites in the bike, the three-year-old son of Jennas Beach Boy-Jaydexter survived a first over journey and wore down pacesetter Jags Rasin (Gord Hennessey), who had carved out fractions of :28.3, :57.3 and 1:28. Joseph Michael took over in the stretch and charged to a two and a half length victory in 1:57.3. Magnetic Benka (Gilles Barrieau) finished second off a pocket trip while Michaels Pleasure (Mark Haig) followed for third.

While in Ontario, Joseph Michael finished ninth in his Simcoe Stakes division won by Kyle Major on Sept. 11 at Mohawk Racetrack and was second in a conditioner on Sept. 20. Prior to his trip, he captured the Ingham Palmer Memorial Invitational Pace on Sept. 5 at Exhibition Park Raceway. He has won 10 of his 11 starts at EPR.

Eric Wilson trains the winning colt, who was purchased for $4,500 at the Canadian Open Yearling Sale by Capital A Investments Ltd. of Lower Cambridge and Valerie Phelan of Geary, N.B. Unraced at two, Joseph Michael has put together a record of 11-3-2 in 17 starts earning $13,169.
