Surging through a seam at the rail off a pocket trip, Summer Charm shot past her competition in the final eighth and dashed to a 1:52.3 victory at odds of 28-1 in the $225,000 OSS Super Final for two-year-old filly pacers.
Sweet Young Thing swept to the top while Summer Charm secured the pocket ahead of stablemate Ideation Hanover in third. By the quarter in :27.1, Sweet Young Thing faced no challenge heading to a :56.1 half.
Ideation Hanover tipped first over heading around the final turn with stablemate Quebec Blue Chip on cover. Sweet Young Thing still held control passing three-quarters in 1:24.2 but soon dropped from contention as Ideation Hanover and Quebec Blue Chip kicked for home. Though, with an opening at the pylons, Summer Charm sprinted through and emerged on top nearing the wire ahead of Better Single, closing from the back, in second and Quebec Blue Chip third. Favourite Powerful Chris, from third over, took fourth.
“I saw her race in Lexington in the sires stakes and then I thought she raced good in the final—I honestly thought she had a shot in [this] race,” winning driver Yannick Gingras said. “I drove her like it and she responded.”
Paying $59.20 to win, Summer Charm won her second race from 11 starts, collecting $203,844 for owner Thomas Dillon. Dave Menary trains the Bettors Delight filly.
