It has been reported that last year in the state of Kentucky, $2.3 million worth of winnings on horse races went unclaimed -- and the rightful owners' losses are backstretch employees' gain

.

A report by WKYT explains that the proceeds from any uncashed ticket which is over one year old gets directed into a health and welfare fund.

The report stated that there was $700,000 in uncashed tickets at Keeneland last year. There was also nearly $35,000 in unclaimed winnings from The Red Mile last year.

Wow. Good luck to the backstretch employees. Seriously though, how could this happen to this extent?
