Emmylou Who Sets Track Record

The former track trotting record for two-year-old fillies didn’t just flutter to the ground on Saturday night, it fell with a thud when Emmylou Who torched the oval in a dazzling clocking of 1:57.4 for her trainer/driver Lyle MacArthur

.

A regular in the OSS program this season, Emmylou Who shipped to the Innisfil, ON oval for an overnight assignment for the partnership of Linda Wellwood, Tammy Aspden, Anne Shunock and Diane Ingham, and the connection had to be pleased with what they saw from the daughter of Ken Warkentin-Emerald Seelster.

Emmylou Who wasn’t in a hurry in the early part of the mile, as noted in the fact that she sat fifth throughout the opening half of $10,500 affair. With fractions of :28 and :59.1 on the board compliments of K D Dream, MacArthur swung his charge to the outside and prompted the leader to the three-quarter pole in 1:28.3.

The final quarter belonged to Emmylou Who, who summoned up a 29-second final frame en route to driving away to win by more than nine lengths in a career-best clocking of 1:57.4. The effort knocked three-fifths of a second off the 1:58.2 track record which was held jointly by Arlanda Hanover (November 2005), Dornello (July 2007) and Tampico (September 2009). It also came within a fifth of a second from equaling the Canadian record for two-year-old trotting fillies on a five-eighths oval. That 1:57.1 record belongs to Torch.

Emmylou Who, who was a $21,000 acquisition at last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale, now owns a 3-2-1 record from just eight starts and her bankroll has climbed to $61,923.

The connections of the filly have October 31 circled on their calendars – a date that could prove to be the most important one of the season for Emmylou Who. London’s Western Fair Raceway will host the final OSS Gold Series event of the season on Hallowe’en night, and it will give Emmylou Who a chance to march up the standings for this year’s OSS Super Final. She has already racked up 62 points, which is good for a share of the 10th in the standings.
