Five Ontario Sires Stakes records were smashed, and memorable victories were tallied one after another on the $2.8 million Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) Super Final card on a beautiful-but-chilly Saturday, Oct. 10 evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Trainer John Pentland scored a Super Final double with offspring sired by Bulldog Hanover, led by a jaw-dropping 1:48.1 Canadian, track and OSS record set by Jersey Bulldog in the rookie filly pace.
Sent off as the 5-2 second choice, the filly travelled fourth into the turn for Bob McClure to a :26.2 first panel before carrying on with a protracted backstretch brush to reach the lead passing the :54.1 half. The filly out of Gallie Beach then fended off first-over Waves Of Fortune (James MacDonald) past three-quarters in 1:21 and defeated 4-5 favourite Aceandaten (Doug McNair) by one length. Qued Up (Trevor Henry) finished third.
Jersey Bulldog shattered the previous track and national divisional mark of 1:49.1 set by Loua Dipa twice last season. The 1:48.1 clocking also makes the filly the fastest two-year-old in Canadian history.
Jersey Bulldog, the winner of the Grade 1 Shes A Great Lady on Sept. 26 at Mohawk, now has earnings of $652,920 for owners Pentland of Dorchester, Ont., Sherri Sumner, also of Dorchester, Jack Darling Stables Ltd. of Cambridge, Ont. and Alan Alber of Thornhill, Ont. Redland Rocket Man set a 1:48 OSS record while winning gate-to-wire and defeating 2025 Canadian and U.S. Horse of the Year Beau Jangles in the sophomore pacing colt division.
Jody Jamieson blasted Redland Rocket Man to the top from post three, putting Borderline Mobby (Louis-Philippe Roy) second and Beau Jangles (Bob McClure) third through :26.1 and :54.4 early panels. Beau Jangles was flushed out going to three-quarters in 1:21.4 and chipped away at the leader through the stretch, but Redland Rocket Man fended off the attack to prevail by 1-1/4 lengths. Odds On Bullfrog (Travis Henry) was third.
The win was the fourth straight for Redland Rocket Man, pushing the son of Bulldog Hanover–Granny Hanover over $1 million in lifetime earnings to $1,121,420. The Pentland trainee improved his career record to 8-3-3 in 27 starts with the triumph.
Redland Rocket Man, bred by Redland Farms of Bible Hill, N.S. and foaled on Prince Edward Island, was a $41,667 purchase at the 2024 Harrisburg sale by Pentland, Murray Cox of Rockwood, Ont. and Gary Volpe of St. Thomas, Ont. The pacer was sent off at even money and paid $4.10.
Three-Year-Old Filly Pace
A week after winning her OSS Grassroots Championship to qualify for the Super Final for three-year-old pacing fillies, Cant Turn You Down posted a stirring victory in the latter with a 1:48.3 OSS record for 26-year-old trainer, breeder and co-owner Zach Carroll of Shedden, Ont.
After an early shuffle through :25.3 and :53.2 fractions, McClure tipped Cant Turn You Down second-over to advance to three-quarters in 1:21.3, and the filly pulled away in the stretch to win by three lengths over Daya (Jody Jamieson). Pownal Bay Bobbi (Louis-Philippe Roy) completed the top three.

Three-Year-Old Colt Trot
Strobe Lite, a Super Final champ as a two-year-old, repeated with a victory in the Super Final for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings, winning in 1:52.
Sent off as the 2-5 favourite with Louis-Philippe Roy aboard, the gelded son of Alarm Detector out of Shine Bright pulled uncovered out of sixth past a :26.1 quarter and loosely followed the cover of Touchedbyanangel (Doug McNair) through the half in :55.2 until that rival cleared going to three-quarters in 1:24. Stormont Shanlyboy was up for second over Mike Me Up.
Strobe Lite, a $16,000 London Classic Yearling Sale purchase, pushed his earnings to $982,130 with his seventh win from 25 starts. Once the dust settled, Cher Hill swept uncovered to three-quarters in 1:25 before Flowing Tribute (Bob McClure) left the pocket to trade blows with Satu Wania (Trevor Henry) into the lane. The former overhauled the latter, but a fresher Cher Hill stormed by them both in late stretch and held off a surging Twin B Showbiz (Tyler Borth) by three-quarters of a length. Bingo Night (Tyler Jones) finished third.

Away fifth to the :26 quarter for Jody Jamieson, Totally Tyler was shuffled to ninth through :55 and 1:23.4 middle fractions but found a split to shift to the outside coming down the lane. He surged widest of all in the stretch, rounding up fellow closer Th Benedict (James MacDonald) in the final strides to win by a half-length. Yes I Am Hanover (Doug McNair) rounded out the triactor.

Detonater Hanover and driver Tyler Moore led gate-to-wire, held off 1-9 favourite D A Johnny Cash (Doug McNair) and survived a long judges’ inquiry for possible interference to win the Super Final for two-year-old trotting colts in a 1:52.2 OSS record.
He exploded to the lead from post eight early and rattled off the splits of :26.2, :55 and 1:24 with D A Johnny Cash racing third until sliding out nearing the third station.
