Crunch Time For Crown Preppers

It’s crunch time for horses to round into form for this year’s Breeders Crown, and a pair of horses with question marks swirling around them on Thursday evening managed to find their way to victory lane at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Whose Blues kicked off her career with four straight wins, but she tasted defeat in each of her last three outings. She got back to victory lane thanks in large part to a perfect, pocket trip mapped out by driver Randy Waples.

The Luc Blais trainee stalked Beads through fractions of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:26.3 before tipping from the two-hole and going on the attack. Whose Blues unleashed a :28.3 closing quarter en route to posting the nose decision over Beads in a career-best clocking of 1:55.3.

Determinations owns the two-year-old daughter of Cantab Hall-Bright Baby Blues, who was a $300,000 purchase from last year’s Lexington Selected Yearling Sale. The victory improved her rookie record to 5-1-1 from eight starts and the lion’s share of the $15,000 purse boosted her earnings to $81,124.

Allywag Hanover went 2-for-2 to kick off his career before losing his next four assignments. He went into his Thursday evening assignment looking for improvement, and he found it.

Jonathan Drury rallied the two-year-old son of Captaintreacherous-Anderosa Hanover from far back, and the colt fired home in :26.2 to win in going away fashion in a clocking of 1:52.3.

Casie Coleman trains the speedy youngster for Allywag Stable of Wellsville, PA. The $95,000 purchase from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale was sold privately earlier this season. He’s stashed away over $34,000 to date.
