No More Stays For Dutrow In NY State

On Tuesday, January 8, John Sabini, the chairman of the New York State Racing and Wagering Board, commented on the New York State Court of Appeals decision not to hear another appeal from suspended thoroughbred trainer Rick Dutrow.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Sabini explained that the Court of Appeals' decision thus exhausts Dutrow's legal option in state court. Page 3 of the court's decision states that it denied Dutrow's Motion for Leave to Appeal in his case against the NYSRWB, therefore Dutrow will not be able to obtain another stay from the state in regard to the matter.

The NYSRWB had handed Dutrow a $50,000 fine and a 10-year suspension from racing in the state due to a litany of drug violations.

"Upon service of the order on Mr. Dutrow," Sabini said, "the penalties issued against him by the Board – a 10-year ban from racing in New York and $50,000 in fines – are expected to take effect. The court’s action confirms that cheaters who repeatedly violate the rules have no place in New York racing.”
