Shoot The Whiskey headlined the Tuesday (Jan. 30) evening card at The Raceway at the Western Fair District in the Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap Pace as the mare went gate-to-wire to pocket the winner's share of the $11,000 purse.
Travis Cullen and the Jodie Cullen student left from post three, securing the lead and setting the tempo through panels in :27.4, :57.4 and 1:26.1. Uncontested, Shoot The Whiskey maintained her lead to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:54.3. Arizona (Tyler Borth) pocketed second and In The Mood (J Harris) rounded out the triactor.
Shoot The Whiskey won her second race in four starts this season and her 20th race from 65 career starts. The five-year-old daughter of Shadow Play and the American Ideal mare Arm In Arm moved her career sum to $262,187 for owners Paul Sanders, J J J Stables and Travis Cullen. As the bettors' choice, the mare returned $3.20 to win.
Andy Over won the co-featured $11,000 Preferred Handicap Trot with Ed Hensley holding the lines for Ashleigh Hensley.
Ed Hensley and Andy Over got away third off the rail through the opening panel in :28.3 before tipping to the outside. The pair followed the outer journey through the half in :59.4 and three-quarters in 1:28.4. Andy Over achieved the lead in the final turn and continued home to win by 2-3/4 lengths in 1:58.2. Favoured Delgado (Scott Young) finished second and Dahlquist Hanover (Anthony Haughan) took third.
Ed & Ashleigh Hensley own the seven-year-old Andovers Son-Victory Love gelding, who earned his first win of the year and 29th career tally in 157 track appearances. He moved his lifetime bankroll to $228,292. At 5-1 odds, Andy Over paid $12.10 to his backers.
