Following two consecutive runner-up finishes in the Prix d'Amérique, Davidson du Pont finally celebrated victory, prevailing in a photo finish in the 101st edition of the prestigious €1,000,000 ($1.4 million CAD) race on Sunday (Jan. 30) at Hippodrome de Vincennes in Paris, France.
Forwardly placed on the outside among the top five at the start by 21-year-old trainer/driver Nicolas Bazire and making a brief front-end appearance early on in the 2,700 metre trot, Davidson du Pont rallied from third down the stretch to catch late leader Galius (Yoann Lebourgeois) at the wire in a photo finish. Galius had taken over command from Etonnant turning for home and began to open up on the 18-horse field before being nosed out for the win. Flamme de Goutier (Theo Duvaldestin) finished third.
Davidson du Pont was runner-up in the Prix d'Amérique in 2020 and 2021 to Face Time Bourbon, who was retired leading up to this year's edition of the race.
The homebred nine-year-old son of Pacha du Pont, previously trained by Bazire's father Jean-Michel, is now a 17-time winner for owner Ecurie Albert Rayon.
