David Miller made good use of starting from the inside with Broadies Song, taking the lead after the quarter and then fought off Cams Art and Ron Pierce on the final turn to roll away in the stretch for a 1:50 triumph, the fastest for an older gelding pacer in early 2012.
A recent acquisition by Dorothy Parker, Chasing Paper and trainer Josh Green, Broadies Song won for the second straight week in the Delaware Special. The Camluck-Hawaiian Dancer five-year-old gelding was followed by Highbeam Rusty N, with Matt Kakaley, nipping Cams Art for second-place money. Broadies Song is now a $334,940 lifetime winner.
Mainland Key N won the $30,000 Preferred-Open for the second time in three weeks as Tim Tetrick posted a 1:51.4 victory behind the Shiney Key-Eastwood Bluejeans veteran gelding, trained by Peter Tritton for owner Harry Von Knoblauch. Dirty Devil and Matt Kakaley came on for second in front of Jeremys Successor and Sean Bier.
