In Roman mythology, Neptune was the god of the freshwater and sea, frequently depicted commanding a seahorse-drawn chariot. For the first qualifier of 2025 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, Neptune was victorious in equine form, driven by the reigning king of the Campbellville oval.
A six-year-old imported son of Bettors Delight, Neptune N was one of four entrants in the session of qualifiers at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday, Jan. 3. James MacDonald asked the pacer the cut the fractions and Neptune N obliged willing. After splits of :29.4, :59 and 1:27.3, Neptune navigated the conditions effortlessly, pacing home in :29 to trip the timer in 1:56.3 over a track with a one-second variant applied. Alabama Hannah was next across the wire for Anthony Haughan, just over a length back.
Trained by Harry Poulton for Thestable Neptune Group of Brunswick, Oh., Neptune N (Bettors Delight - Safedra) notched eight victories in his downunder racing career along with $63,718 in purses.
After a break for the month of December, driver Doug McNair made his return to competition at Mohawk in the third qualifier of the morning with a mile aboard father Gregg's pacer Volcanic. McNair is listed to drive in seven dashes on Monday, Jan. 6 at Mohawk and told Trot Insider that he's "ready to get back in the swing of things."
